About Uniswap
Uniswap is a decentralized exchange protocol that lets people swap tokens straight from their own wallets, with no order book and no company holding their funds. Created by Hayden Adams and first deployed on Ethereum in 2018, it popularized the automated market maker model: liquidity providers deposit pairs of tokens into pools, traders swap against those pools, and a pricing formula shifts the rate as the balance of each pool changes. Providers collect fees from the trades in return. Later versions added features such as concentrated liquidity, which lets providers choose the price range where their capital is active, and the protocol now runs on a number of networks besides Ethereum.
What UNI is for
UNI arrived in September 2020 as the protocol's governance token, and part of the supply went directly to people who had already used Uniswap. Holders can vote on proposals themselves or delegate their voting power to someone else. Governance oversees the community treasury, incentive programs and protocol fee settings, while the smart contracts carry out trades automatically. Uniswap Labs, the company Adams founded, builds widely used apps for the protocol, but trading does not depend on any single website.
On EX5, UNI trades against Tether in the UNI/USDT pair, and the exchange's own daily price record for that pair begins on August 3, 2026.
What moves the Uniswap price
UNI's price reflects how the market judges the Uniswap protocol and the token's role in it. The mechanisms that usually matter are:
- Protocol activity and fees. Trading on Uniswap generates fees for liquidity providers. Whether governance directs part of those fees to the protocol, and how that income is used (for example to burn UNI), has been a long-running debate that shapes how the token is valued.
- Distribution and large holders. UNI was allocated to the community treasury, early users, the team and investors, and released over four years. Treasury spending, grants and large transfers affect how many tokens reach the market.
- Governance outcomes. Votes on incentives, new deployments or token economics can shift expectations quickly.
- Sector conditions. Competition from other exchanges and aggregators, Ethereum network fees, the overall level of DeFi activity and regulatory attitudes towards decentralized finance all play a part.
- Broader market mood. Like most tokens, UNI tends to move with Bitcoin, Ether and general appetite for risk.
How to store UNI
You can keep UNI in an EX5 account, where the exchange holds the keys for you, or in a self-custody wallet, where only you control the private key or recovery phrase. Software (hot) wallets are convenient for frequent use, while hardware wallets keep keys offline and reduce exposure to online attacks. UNI is an ERC-20 token, so any wallet that supports Ethereum tokens can hold it, and moving it requires a little ETH to pay network fees.
EX5 supports UNI deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network only, and deposits are credited after 15 confirmations. Bridged versions of UNI also exist on other networks. Sending UNI over another network, or to an address from a different chain, can lead to lost funds, so check the network and address before every transfer.
