About Arbitrum

Arbitrum is a family of scaling technologies for Ethereum developed by Offchain Labs, a company whose founders began the work as academic research at Princeton University. Its main network, Arbitrum One, is an optimistic rollup: it executes transactions away from Ethereum's main chain and then publishes the transaction data back to Ethereum in compressed batches. The resulting state is accepted as correct unless someone challenges it with a fraud proof during a dispute window, which lets Arbitrum rely on Ethereum for security while keeping fees lower. Contracts and tools built for Ethereum generally work on Arbitrum with few or no changes.

Other parts of the ecosystem include Arbitrum Nova, a lower-cost chain that relies on a small committee to keep transaction data available; Arbitrum Orbit, a framework for launching separate chains built on the same technology; and Stylus, which lets developers write contracts in languages such as Rust alongside Solidity.

The ARB token

ARB was introduced in 2023 as the governance token of the Arbitrum DAO. Holders, or the delegates they choose, vote on protocol upgrades and on how the DAO treasury is used. The initial supply was 10 billion ARB, and the DAO can approve new issuance within a small annual cap. ARB is not needed to pay transaction fees on Arbitrum, which are charged in ETH. On EX5, ARB trades in the ARB/USDT pair, listed since 3 August 2026, and is transferred on the Ethereum network as an ERC-20 token.

What moves the Arbitrum price

ARB's circulating supply grows as tokens allocated to the team, advisers and early investors are released on a multi-year vesting schedule, and as the DAO distributes tokens from its treasury through grants and incentive programmes. Large releases add tokens that recipients may sell, so markets tend to pay attention to the unlock calendar. A decision by the DAO to mint new tokens would add to supply as well.

On the demand side, ARB is mainly a governance asset. Because gas on Arbitrum is paid in ETH, network usage does not translate directly into purchases of ARB. Sentiment is shaped instead by how much activity, capital and developer attention Arbitrum attracts compared with other Ethereum layer-2 networks, by governance decisions about the treasury and fee revenue, and by the adoption of Orbit chains and Stylus.

Broader factors also matter. ARB often moves together with Ethereum and the wider crypto market, and changes to Ethereum itself, such as upgrades that alter the cost of publishing rollup data, affect the economics of every layer-2 network. Security incidents, regulatory developments and shifts in general risk appetite can move the price too.

How to store ARB

You can keep ARB in your EX5 account, where the exchange holds the keys and the tokens are ready to trade; protect the account with a strong, unique password and two-factor authentication. For self-custody, any Ethereum-compatible software wallet or hardware wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens can hold ARB. You then control the private keys, must keep the recovery phrase backed up offline, and need a small amount of ETH to pay gas when moving tokens.

EX5 supports ARB deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network only, and credits deposits after 15 confirmations. ARB also exists on Arbitrum One, where addresses look the same: tokens sent from Arbitrum One or any other network to an EX5 deposit address may not be credited and can be lost. Bridge them to Ethereum first; withdrawals through the official Arbitrum bridge take about a week. Current withdrawal fees and minimums are shown in the networks section of this page.
