About TRON

TRON is a smart-contract blockchain best known as one of the main networks for moving stablecoins, above all Tether (USDT). Blocks are produced about every three seconds, and its virtual machine is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so applications written in Solidity can be deployed with few changes. TRX is the native token: it pays for network resources, it is staked to obtain those resources and voting rights, and new TRX is paid out as rewards to the block producers that run the chain.

How TRON works

TRON uses delegated proof of stake. Holders stake TRX and vote for block producers known as Super Representatives; the 27 candidates with the most votes take turns producing blocks and decide on proposals to change network parameters, and voters can receive part of the rewards. Instead of charging a flat fee per transaction, the network meters two resources: bandwidth, which every transaction uses, and energy, which smart-contract calls use. Accounts obtain these resources by staking TRX, and when a transaction needs more than an account has available, the shortfall is paid by burning TRX.

TRON was founded by Justin Sun in 2017. TRX first circulated as a token on Ethereum before moving to TRON's own mainnet in 2018, and the organisation behind the protocol now operates as the TRON DAO. On EX5, TRX trades against Tether in the TRX/USDT market.

What moves the TRON price

Much of the demand for TRX comes from TRON's role as a payment rail for stablecoins. Every USDT transfer consumes bandwidth and energy, which users either obtain by staking TRX or pay for by burning it, so the level of stablecoin activity on TRON, and any shift of that activity to competing networks, can affect demand for the token. Decisions by stablecoin issuers and payment services about which networks to support matter for the same reason.

Supply is shaped by two opposing flows: new TRX is issued as block and voting rewards, while TRX burned for resources is removed for good. Depending on network activity, total supply can grow or shrink over a given period. Staked TRX is not immediately available to trade, because unstaking involves a waiting period, and governance votes that change resource prices alter the cost of using the network.

TRX is also influenced by broader crypto sentiment, the direction of Bitcoin, interest-rate expectations and the regulatory treatment of stablecoins in major markets.

How to store TRX

TRX can be held in an exchange account such as EX5, where the exchange manages the private keys, or in a self-custody wallet that supports TRON. Software wallets are convenient for frequent use, while hardware wallets keep the keys offline for added protection. With self-custody, whoever holds the recovery phrase controls the funds, and sending tokens requires bandwidth or a small amount of TRX to cover fees.

EX5 supports TRX deposits and withdrawals on the TRON network, and credits a deposit once it has 30 confirmations. TRON addresses begin with the letter T. Send only native TRX on TRON to your EX5 TRX deposit address, since versions of TRX on other blockchains are different assets. TRC-20 tokens such as USDT use the same address format, so check which asset you are sending before you confirm.
