About Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, launched in August 2020 by a pseudonymous founder known as Ryoshi. It started as a meme token named after the Japanese dog breed and was presented from the outset as a community-driven experiment. The initial supply was one quadrillion tokens: half was placed in a liquidity pool on Uniswap and the other half was sent to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who in 2021 burned most of it and donated the rest to charity.
From meme to ecosystem
Over time the community built products around the token. ShibaSwap is a decentralized exchange for swapping tokens and supplying liquidity. Shibarium is a layer-2 network meant to make transactions cheaper and faster than on Ethereum itself. Two companion tokens have separate jobs: BONE is used for governance votes and pays for gas on Shibarium, while LEASH is a far scarcer token with a very small supply.
SHIB remains the everyday token of the ecosystem, used for trading and payments. Because the supply is so large, a single SHIB is worth a tiny fraction of a US cent, and quotes usually show many decimal places. On EX5, SHIB trades in the SHIB/USDT pair, and the exchange's daily price record for that pair begins on August 3, 2026.
What moves the Shiba Inu price
As a meme-driven asset, SHIB is more sensitive to attention and sentiment than tokens whose value rests mainly on fee income or network usage. The main forces are:
- Community and social media. Posts, trends and news coverage can bring waves of buyers or sellers in a short time, and meme tokens as a group often move together.
- Supply and burns. Because the supply is enormous, even large burns remove only a small share of it. Burn campaigns draw attention, but their direct effect on scarcity is limited.
- Large holders. Big wallets can move substantial amounts at once, and transfers to or from exchanges are closely watched by other traders.
- Ecosystem progress. Usage of Shibarium and ShibaSwap, the roles of BONE and LEASH, and any security incidents in these products influence whether SHIB is seen as more than a meme.
- Market-wide risk appetite. Speculative assets tend to react strongly to shifts in Bitcoin, interest rates and overall liquidity.
How to store SHIB
You can hold SHIB in an EX5 account, where the exchange keeps the keys, or in a self-custody wallet, where only you hold the private key or recovery phrase. Hot wallets on phones and in browsers are convenient for regular transfers, while hardware wallets keep keys offline and reduce exposure to online threats. Any wallet that supports Ethereum tokens can store SHIB, and moving it on Ethereum requires a small amount of ETH for network fees.
EX5 supports SHIB deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network only, as an ERC-20 token, and deposits are credited after 15 confirmations. SHIB also circulates on Shibarium and other networks through bridges. Do not send SHIB to your EX5 deposit address from Shibarium or any chain other than Ethereum: a transfer on the wrong network may not be credited and may be impossible to recover.
